On September 8, the 2021 Silk Road Maritime International Cooperation Forum hosted by Fujian Provincial People’s Government and China Institute of Navigation (CIN) was held in Xiamen. The theme of this year’s event is “To Embrace New Opportunities and Fulfill New Missions in the New Era”. Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING Capt. Xu Lirong attended the main forum in a virtual way and delivered a keynote speech entitled “Logistics Supply Chain: A Primary Role in Global Economic and Trade Recovery During the Pandemic”.
Xu said in his speech that the gradual recovery of major global economies and the recurrence of pandemic around the world have brought both significant opportunities and challenges for the world’s maritime and port industries. A safe, efficient and unimpeded logistics supply chain has played a primary role in helping the economy and trade to return to normal. The maritime industry should take up three “roles”, which means to serve as a “channel” to link up both the supply and demand ends, as a “quality service provider” to offer total transport solutions, and as a “revolutionary innovator” to leverage science and technology to enhance the industry’s overall competitiveness.
