On August 9, 2019, the Chinese Chapter of the BRICS Business Council held its first meeting in 2019 at the Beijing Ocean Plaza. The meeting was presided over by Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING Capt. Xu Lirong.
At the meeting, Mr. Wang Xiaolong, Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the appointment decisions on the Chinese Chapter of the BRICS Business Council: Capt. Xu Lirong, Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING, Mr. Lv Jun, Chairman of COFCO, Mr. Lu Yimin, President of China General Technology, Mr. Chen Siqing, Chairman of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), and Mr. Dai Houliang, Chairman of Sinopec, will serve as members and Capt. Xu Lirong will concurrently act as Chairman of the Chinese Chapter.
Later, participants at the meeting set the work priorities of the newly elected Chinese Chapter this year, and deliberated and adopted the personnel appointments for its Secretariat as well as chairman organizations of the nine Chinese working groups.
Chairman organizations of the nine Chinese working groups are:
China Railway Group Limited will be the chairman organization of the Infrastructure Working Group; China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach) the chairman organization of the Manufacturing Working Group; Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited the chairman organization of the Financial Services Working Group; China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group) the chairman organization of the Energy & Green Economy Working Group; Beijing ARC Xinxing Science and Technology Co., Ltd. the chairman organization of the Skills Development Working Group; China General Technology the chairman organization of the Deregulation Working Group; COFCO the chairman organization of the Agri-business Working Group; Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) the chairman organization of the Regional Aviation Working Group; and China United Network Communications Group Co., Ltd. (China Unicom) the chairman organization of the Digital Economy Working Group.
