Joint Venture of COSCO SHIPPING, FURUNO and Heisei Trading Established

On the afternoon of September 10, the inauguration ceremony and promotion meeting of COSCO SHIPPING FURUNO Navigation Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. was held at the COSCO SHIPPING headquarters in Shanghai. The company was a joint venture of COSCO SHIPPING’s subsidiary COSCO SHIPPING Technology Co., Ltd. (CS Tech), Furuno Electric Co., Ltd. (FURUNO) and Heisei Trading Co., Ltd. (Heisei Trading).

Mr. Yukio Furuno, President of FURUNO, Mr. Tomohiro Imae, President of Heisei Trading, Capt. Xu Lirong, Chairman and Party Secretary of COSCO SHIPPING, Mr. Dong Qiang, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Mr. Wang Yuhang, Executive Vice President of COSCO SHIPPING, and Mr. Wu Jihong, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization (SMCEI) jointly declared the establishment of the joint venture. Leaders of COSCO SHIPPING, SMCEI, NAPA Japan, COSCO SHIPPING Lines, and Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) addressed the inauguration ceremony.

COSCO SHIPPING FURUNO Navigation Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., which specializes in marine communication and navigation, will win market competition with superior products and high-quality global services, and achieve sustained growth through technical innovation. By continuously expanding cooperation in the R&D, production, sales and service of marine communication & navigation products and related technology applications, the Chinese and Japanese partners will jointly build an international market and brand, and develop the JV into a world-class marine communication and navigation equipment manufacturer and integrated service provider, so as to promote technical innovation and development in the international shipping community.

The event was also attended by more than 100 people, including heads of the Consulate-General of Japan in Shanghai, China Classification Society (CCS) Shanghai Branch, Shanghai Salvage Bureau, Shanghai Maritime University, No. 708 Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), and domestic shipbuilders such as Jiangnan Shipyard, Hudong Shipyard and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS), as well as COSCO SHIPPING’s divisions and subsidiaries.
